    B/L explained

    Bill of Lading

Transport contract, cargo receipt and document of title — the paper that controls release of your cargo.

    Full definition

Three variants matter. An original B/L must be surrendered at destination: safest, slowest. Telex release means the supplier surrendered originals at origin and authorized release, common with trusted suppliers. A sea waybill is non-negotiable and fastest but carries no title control. L/C transactions require originals. Shipper, consignee and notify party fields must match your entry data or the CBP filing stalls.

    Worked examples
