Logistics

    LCL explained

    Less than Container Load

Shared container space billed per CBM, suited to roughly 1–15 CBM shipments.

    Full definition

LCL charges on volume or weight, whichever is greater, then adds consolidation fees, documentation, destination CFS handling and terminal charges — so the real per-unit cost is routinely underestimated. Operational risks: odor or moisture transfer from other shippers, handling damage during deconsolidation, and delays when another shipper on the same container is held by CBP.

    Worked examples

    • LCL Shanghai → Long Beach USD 65 / CBM plus USD 80 documentation
