HTS Code explained
Harmonized Tariff Schedule Code
The classification number that sets your duty rate, Section 301 exposure and admissibility.
Full definition
The first six digits are the international HS code; the US extends it to ten digits under the HTSUS. Classification is the single highest-leverage decision in landed cost: a neighboring subheading can move duty by several percentage points, and Section 301 lists apply by HTS line. For new products or large programs, request a binding ruling from CBP rather than accepting the factory or forwarder classification.
